Wilson County District 1 Fire & Rescue serves the western half of Wilson County, Texas. The District provides Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical First Response to approximately 362 square miles of Wilson county and includes the Cities of La Vernia, Stockdale and the areas of Sutherland Springs and Kicaster.
Station 1, located in La Vernia and is staffed 24/7 by 4 professional Firefighters and 1 Battalion Chief. Fire Station 2, located at FM 775 and FM3432 is staffed by 3 professional Firefighters, 24/7. The Stockdale station is staffed with 3 professional Firefighters 24/7.
Our fleet consists of 3 Rescue/Engines, 2 Engines, 4 Brush trucks, 1 Light Rescue, 2 Command vehicles, 2 Water Tenders, 1 Reserve engine and 1 Reserve Brush truck. The District has 2 new engines on order and we just took deliver of 2 new brush trucks.
The District responds to approximately 3200 calls per year.
The La Vernia VFD was established in 1918 and served until 2017.
In 2008 the voters established Wilson County Emergency Services District #1 to provided Fire and Rescue services for the La Vernia area. The District operates on an ad-valorem property tax. The Emergency Service District contracted their fire service through the La Vernia VFD until 2017 when both entities combined to form District 1 Fire & Rescue as we know it today.
In 2017, Wilson County Emergency Services District #1 voters approved the annexation of the Kicaster and Sutherland Springs areas into the existing La Vernia area. In 2023 the voters approved the annexation of the Stockdale area.
